THE HEALING OF OUR ANCESTORS--AN EXPERIENTIAL PRESENTATION
AT THE PROPHETS CONFERENCE ~ CARIBBEAN WITH
PALEOANTHROPOLOGIST HANK WESSELMAN, PHD.
Long before the rise of nation state societies, our indigenous ancestors
discovered powerful methods for mastering the capabilities of the human
body/mind/spirit complex. Today, there is a resurgence of interest in the
ancient time-tested ways of the shaman for entering mystical states of
consciousness for healing and problem-solving. More and more non-tribal
Westerners are learning to access the hidden dimensions of reality to
make contact with the inner sources of power and wisdom that reside
there. We are in the process of remembering who we are and are
discovering that we are the seed-people for the next stage of human
evolution.
In the Western world, the spirit is the least understood aspect of
ourselves. There is the spirit/energy we received when we were born from
our personal creative source, our own immortal higher self or oversoul,
and there is the spirit/energy of our ancestors that we received through
our mothers and fathers. Both originally came from the same source and
are, in fact, part of the same totality, although they exist in very
different states of quality.
The spirit/energy of our ancestors forms the foundation, providing the
generative life-force for the developing body from the moment of
conception. The spirit/energy we receive from our oversoul enters the
body with the first breath and it leaves with the last. The word spirit
comes from the Latin spiritus meaning breath, and it is in this manner
that the gods breathe spirit into form.
The resulting spiritual/energetic composite is the essence of who we
are/were and who we are becoming in this life, with the body serving as
the earthly vehicle through which spirit can interact with the plane of
action. Mind forms in response to this interaction, and working together,
the body/mind/spirit complex grows or is diminished in response to what
we do and become as we pass through life. With the death of the physical
body, the spirit/energy complex detaches and goes into the dreamworlds,
carrying with it the mind, which contains a psychic/energetic blueprint
of all that we have become. Eventually this spiritual composite remerges
with our personal oversoul source, which serves as repository and thus
changes as it travels through time. In this way, spirit evolves.
There is thus an intimate and ongoing relationship with our own personal
ancestral source self as well as with our immediate ancestors. We cannot
disconnect with the ones who have given life to us because energy is the
connection and energy never dies. This energy is transferred from
generation to generation, and it is through this connection that our
ancestors can effect us. Their strengths and positive qualities of
character, as well as their flaws, sorrows, pain, and suffering, can
manifest in us, although in a modified state. And the effects of this
connection often increase as we grow older...
Hank Wesselman's presentation will explore the nature of this
relationship and will include a powerful shamanic exercise designed to
honor and promote healing in one's ancestral lineage.

peoples, primarily in Africa, and is the author of the widely-read
Spiritwalker: Messages from the Future (Bantam, 1995) and the recently
released sequel Medicinemaker: Mystic Encounters on the Shaman's Path
(Bantam, 1998), an ongoing account of his fieldwork into the shamanic
realms of magic, mysticism, and meaning.
