RJ used to be known as Bob Stewart.  I am looking at a 1981 publication
called "The Waters of the Gap/ The Mythology of Aquae Sulis" about Bath,
and there is a pict of him in the back with not-yet greyed hair and a 45
degree side profile, but it is definitely OUR fairy dreampower man.

The book was given to me by my new flatmate, and it is about the waters
at Bath and this fascinating story of the the Head God and Goddess,
Medusa and Bladud.  So there is the Majickal Head again.... the grail
story of the severed head, John the Baptist's head from the Templar
Revelation...  and now I know why my fingers were glowing and pulsing
when I was walking about the Abby, near the Roman Baths, on Tuesday.  I
am going there again today and hope my new gentleman friend will let me
visit a spa, as I need a bath bad, and not ready to use this one...
(actually I have a cleaner meeting me at the cottage at 1230 and we
shall clean it together for 2 hrs, I am acting like she is my friend as
to not insult Lin).

I am typing on my APPLE computer in my new bed, where I have not slept
really all night.  It is 630 am on a FINE Friday morn.. doves cooing and
sheep baaahing.  Oh there is a beautiful pict of white running horses on
the wall in the Bathroom, Tecia.  My new scholar friend says that Fire
Horses are the quintessential Horse.  Are you a Metal Horse?  He is a
Metal Dragon.  So I bought a throw rug to cover my old carpeting in my
room, and cut it in half to create a runner by the bed and door, and it
has APPLES on it.  I realized that the MAC is an Apple, too, cool eh?
hehe.  Apple Island... Merlin and Morgana and the Apple Trees on -this-
very hill ~ ~

Quote from this wonderful gem of a book, published by "Bath City Council
1981" -- now there is a way to publish, to write on the mythology of
ancient sites and get backed by the town govt ! -- ...

"
The Derivation of the word "Sulis"
---------------------------------------------
"The word "sulis" has been suggested as a Celtic derivation, a
proper name which originates as the description of the source of the Hot
Springs.  Given time, names of this sort become inseparable from the
attributes and personality of the presiding deity of any site, and the
dedications to "the Goddess Sulis" from the Roman period show a clear
identification, always feminine.
"In Irish: SUIL -- (f) 'An eye'. Also used as meaning eye or hole
(of a strap)
In Gaelic: SUIL -- 'An eye'. The centre of a whirlpool.  An opening or
orifice.
SUILEATH: 'Sharp sighted and knowing'
In Manx: SHILLEY or SOOIL: 'An eye'
"In modern Welsh the term is missing, but in Old Welsh, it
corresponded to the terms given.
"The English verb "to swallow" is derived from the same source, and
is related to an Icelandic word meaning "whirlpool".  (Note the term
'swallow' for drain, and "Swallow holes' in caving terminology).
"In modern Welsh the term "Dydd Sul" is used for Sunday, but this is
not of Celtic origin, but taken from an adaptation of the Latin "Deis
Solis".  THe root Sul is not necessarily cognate with Sol, from the
Latin, although the similarity of the two has caused some confusion in
writers who have described "the god SUL".  Presumably they have confused
the solar identity of the 'Gorgon's Head', forgetting that the
inscriptions are always to the -goddess- SULIS.
"A word SUILLUS exists in Latin, which means 'of or belonging to
Swine'.  While it is tempting to think that this may mean that the
goddess' name refers to the myth of King Bladud and his pigs, it should
be clear and obvious that the world "Sulis' is a distinctive proper
name, by the way in which it was spelt and by the manner in which it was
used as a god-name in inscription.  -If- this had been "suillus" (i.e.
"Aquae suillus, the waters belonging to the pigs") it would surely have
been spelt and referred to as such by the contemporary inscriptions.
The distinction between SULIS referred to as a feminine power, and a
word used in general language 'suillus' should be clear.
"The physical attributes of the site itself suggest the goddess'
name, and as have been suggested, the use of a native term is in keeping
with the general practice of the Romans in Britain, where Celtic and
Latin terms were continually put together, in god-names that refer
directly to the environmental nature of the place, as well as to the
divine powers worshipped there.
"The meanings of "eye" "Gap" "Hole" "Whirlpool" further expand into
related concepts of "far seeking" "sharp sighted" and "Knowing", and so
confirm the possibility of the Celtic derivation of the name, for the
goddess of the underworld was always the goddess of knowledge and
prophecy.  The relationship between "eye" and "whirlpool" is still used
in modern language, where we talk about the "eye of a whirlpool" or the
"eye of a storm".  This is a reference to the still centre which
supposed to exist according to the laws of nature, but was a concept
well established in the ancient philosophy , and which features
extensively in mystical terminology.  Its origin is in the ancient
Otherworld gate, over which the goddess presided.
"It is interesting to note that in several myths, the Pig is an
animal of the Otherworld, and was brought out of the depths for the
benefit of mankind, by a hero, after an expedition or raid.  The swine
is therefore an animal-that-comes-up-from-the-gap; as it is natural that
the mythical king Bladud is led to the gap where the waters originate by
a herd of swine.
"Recent finds from the central spring include an inscription that
suggests that the name of the goddess was 'SUL' and not 'SULIS', but in
either variant of the term, the root meaning suggested above may hold
true.  One of the problems of limited finds in inscription is that they
do not always follow presumed grammatical rules, but 'SULIS' is thought
to be the genitive of 'SUL'. "

now... hand written in the book's pages, by Lin, she has written:
"Morgan la Fey _skulls mast of Morrigen_ "
-and- "Caellich" ~~

... and today when she gave me the book, I just happened to open to
-that- page and saw that sacred name of mine and said, oh, you have
Morgana written here-- and of course I squealed... and this morn, I find
the page to see what is written about Morgana and instead get this major
parallel.

also... Lin told me today that she -did- in fact write her book on
Bridget based on her 15 yrs of research... this whole book has her nice
little writing notes that links to her research.

It is sooo woven, the PIG GODDESS was what came up and got Jenn and I at
the Underworld Caves, where the bats were mating... in September... she
came up from the caves, the water, the river... and all my themes about
portals and eyes and sight and the otherworld and underworld.. of the
sacred pool, the mirror, Crater Lake on my 32nd b-day... the wormhole,
the vortices... and Kelly what you wrote the other day about the
